Green thumb???....more like brown with dirt!
Recently, we decided as a family that it would be prudent for us to start a garden. In uncertain economic times, we felt strongly that we needed to do something (however insignificant) in an attempt at self-sufficiency. Plan A-Blake bought boards and put them together in our back yard to do an above ground garden (approx. 8x8). Our soil here is really crappy, so we had planned just to bring in dirt from his dad's farm fields.....until we realized that it would require a small dump truck to move that much dirt. Consequently, plan B is in effect. We decided to plant our garden out in the fields by the pig barn. The dirt is already fertilized because of farming and is quite rich soil. The only thing is that we have to drive over there to do all the work! It's not that big of a deal, but come time when a lot of work is needed, it might be a different story. We've also decided that this will be a family thing...meaning all four of us will go together each time....yeah, we'll see if that pans out later, too. So far, it's going well. We've planted squash, peppers, okra, and watermelon. Hopefully, we can at least grow something! I kill almost every plant I have. It's like the blind leading the blind, as neither one of us knows the first thing about gardening! I meant to take pics today, but there's not really anything to see until the plants come up. Stay tuned....hopefully, we'll have some juicy watermelons to brag about!

Good luck with your garden. We hope to till ours next month. PA is still getting frosts. Best wishes with yours.
I've been telling Dustin that we need to start a garden (Carson is at a good age to help) but we're just like you- neither of us has a clue! Good luck...maybe I can convince Dustin to give it a try now. :)
